Torture: A Halloween Anthology
5 Torturing, Mind Blowing Stars!
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Hell’s Table by A.J. Blackburn
Hell’s Table is an intriguing and captivating paranormal story. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story at first, and very cleverly, A.J. Blackburn pulls you in, has you hooked, you see one plot twist that you didn’t expect, and as another unfolds, she leaves you hanging! To be continued… were the words I read and shouted aloud, because I needed the rest of the story right there and then! With this said, the story does have a concluded ending, however, it also has so much more to tell us, and I cannot wait to read the full story. I am now stalking this author, eagerly await the release of Hell’s Table and to look at her other books.
Brazen by Anna Edwards
I enjoyed Anna Edwards take on the underworld. This short paranormal romance story is intriguing, and I was not always sure where it was heading. I admit I did not see the twists 100%, and I loved how she showed us a possible softer side to the devil.
Night Vengeance by Claire Marta
Claire Marta has written a fascinating story, based upon a legendary character, and put a modern spin upon it. The story kept me captivated and did not reveal the truth behind the main character straight away. This story is cleverly scripted, to keep us the reader on our toes!
Fractured Remains by Crystal North
Dark, captivating and intriguing harem story, that left me needing and wanting more! The characters are fascinating, and have you loving each of them for different reasons. The subject of this story is one that sadly happens, and this little story gives you an insight into the how. Fractured Remains ends with, to be continued… ARGH! I should feel annoyed, because I was so invested in this story, I wanted to devour it all! However, I love how Crystal North has pulled me in and had me looking to pre-order the full-length novel. I may also now be stalking her on social media.
Piper by Emma Luna
Crazy, dark and twisted is how I would describe this story from Emma Luna. A story that went a little out of my comfort zone. However, I cannot deny how intrigued I was by Piper, and although I had kind of worked out what was going to happen, I did not quite see it panning out the way it did. I am impressed with Emma’s imagination, she certainly has a deep, dark, crazy side, and has found a way to share it with us. Not usually my cup of tea, but I cannot deny it has intrigued me to read more. This story does conclude. However, it is another story waiting to be continued and I might just have to read it!
Sins of the Brother by L M Morgan
A little Dark Mafia story that had me hooked! The St Claire brothers had me intrigued, especially Chuck. He was not your typical mafia brother, and it was clear it was not a life he happily chooses. His father and older brother, are the darkest characters, twisted and crazy. His older brother soon discovers his actions will not always go unnoticed. LM Morgan introduced us to a Welcome Parade, and not of the friendly kind. I would be open to more from the St Claire family, ‘hint, hint’!
Revenge: A Dish Best Served Screaming
A story about revenge, to punish those who had taken a young, innocent life. This story was a surprise, I did not see the twist coming at all! Even when it was revealed, I still sat thinking, no this cannot be true? Can it? Paula Acton has a great talent for keeping the mystery about a story, captivating you, building up the tension, keeping the reader guessing and surprising you with a huge plot twist!
Breathe Again by Samantha Lewis
A dark, shocking story, that had me filling with rage, and wanting to crawl into the story to inflict revenge on a vile, sick twisted man. However, I am not sure my torture would have been as well delivered and as excruciating as it was in this story. Samantha Lewis has written a great story, of how one’s torture is what fuels them, when they get chance to deliver revenge. A heart-breaking story, but with a deliciously dark revenged ending.
The Witches of North Berwick House by T.J. Podger
A mysteriously, ghostly, story that captivates you from start to finish. Berwick House is dangerous, yet there is a pull to it, that you struggle to fight. Frederick has witnessed as a young boy what things happen at Berwick house, and although he begs his wife to avoid the house, she cannot keep away. Loved this mysterious story, and it was a great addition to the novella, The Last Witch of North Berwick House also by T.J. Podger, is another book I would highly recommend.
DO NOT let the, ‘to be continued stories’, put you off this anthology! You WILL want to buy those stories when the full-length novels are released, and you do not want to miss the other fantastic stories this Anthology and its awesome authors have to offer. These stories are all perfect for a short read to unwind, before heading to bed. It stops the need for ‘one more chapter’ that is never just one and has you awake until the early hours because you cannot put the book down!
